Better Skin Through Crystals

Microdermabrasion Lewisville TXAdmit it. You read that headline and thought this was some Shirley MacLaine New Age mumbo jumbo, right?

Nope. These crystals are all about exfoliation, which is the key to healthy skin. Removing the outer layer of dead skin cells exposes the fresher skin beneath, and it gives your skin a healthy glow. Microdermabrasion with Dr. Lipton is a non-invasive, non-surgical procedure that delivers excellent exfoliation without any downtime. It’s a great anti-aging option!

What is microdermabrasion?

In microdermabrasion, aluminum oxide or sodium chloride crystals are sprayed onto the patient’s face and vacuumed away simultaneously, along with the dead skin cells and impurities the treatment removes. Microdermabrasion with Dr. Lipton is great for improving areas of sun damage, fine lines, age spots, acne, and superficial scarring.

How is microdermabrasion done?

We start by thoroughly cleansing your face to remove any make-up and oil. Then we move the microdermabrasion handpiece across the treatment area. How much exfoliation we achieve is determined by the amount of suction used and the number of passes made over the skin surface. While it sounds aggressive, the pressure used is not extreme, so patients don’t even need any numbing cream before their session. After your session, we apply a cold, wet towel to your face and often a hydrating mask. The session ends with an application of a moisturizer.

Is microdermabrasion like dermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is not a “mini” version of dermabrasion. Dermabrasion is a very invasive method of removing a few layers of skin to remove issues such as acne scarring and deeper wrinkles. Dermabrasion is done with a rotating metal brush that removes the skin. Dermabrasion requires extensive recovery and is not in the same ballpark as microdermabrasion. We don’t perform any dermabrasion procedures at Dr. Lipton’s practice.

What happens after my microdermabrasion?

There isn’t any downtime with microdermabrasion at Dr. Lipton’s. You can return to work or other typical activities immediately after your session. You do need to protect your skin with at least 30 SPF sunscreen afterward, but that’s about it.
