Laser Hair Removal
What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is a cosmetic procedure that removes unwanted hair by using pulsed laser energy. This laser destroys the hair follicle but keeps the surrounding skin unharmed. Because the laser beams used to remove hair target its melanin (pigment), the best candidates have dark hair and light skin.
Hair grows in 3 different stages: active (anagen), transitional (telogen), and resting (catagen). When the hair is in the active (antigen) growth phase the laser will have the most effect on the hair follicle. We use both the Yag 1064 and Alexandrite laser, which allows us to treat any skin tone.
Candidates for Laser Hair Removal
The best candidates for laser hair removal have dark hair and light skin. As long as the hair has pigment (meaning color) the laser will recognize the hair and remove it. On the other hand, laser hair removal is not suitable for patients with gray, red or white hair; for these, we recommend electrolysis.

Preparing For Laser Hair Removal
Patients scheduled for laser hair removal should avoid plucking, electrolysis, or wax at least three weeks prior to treatment, should be clean-shaven and if a numbing cream has been prescribed it should be applied one hour prior to treatment and covered with saran wrap. The intended treatment area should not be exposed to sunlight, tanning booths or self-tanners prior to or immediately after treatment.
Hair Removal Treatment
Your aesthetician will first numb the targeted area with a topical anesthetic. They will move a handheld device that emits intense laser pulses across the area, focusing on individual hair follicles. There are different methods of laser hair removal, some of which combine laser impulses with radiofrequency. During a complimentary consultation, we will determine the appropriate method for the patient.
How Many Hair Removal Treatments Are Needed?
Typically, for laser hair removal, a patient will need at least 6 to 8 sessions to reduce hair by 80 to 90%. On larger areas and less coarse hair, more sessions may be required for optimal results. Sessions are normally every 5 to 6 weeks. After 6 to 8 session, a touch-up/maintenance may be necessary. Sessions are typically scheduled further apart, up to 12 weeks, depending on the patient’s hair growth.
Results of Laser hair removal
After just a first few visits you will notice less hair. Your hair will also begin to get finer, thinner and lighter. You will notice that the hair treated will start to grow back less and less frequent.
Cost of Laser Hair Removal procedure
Our practice offers pricing to make it affordable for anyone. Laser hair removal means money out of your pocket, but if you calculate the lifetime cost of shaving, waxing, threading, or plucking, you’re making a wise and worthy investment. Fees are based on the treatment area and the number of sessions required.
