What Is The ARTAS IX System?

The ARTAS iX System is the leading hair transplantation system, developed by physicians and researchers. The system utilizes state-of-the-art robotic technology and artificial intelligence (AI) to assist physicians with difficult, manual methods that require repetitive and precise movements which can increase the risk of human error.

ARTAS is a clinically proven and permanent solution for restoring hair. It provides natural results without stitches, staples, linear scarring, or damage to existing hair. Patients can expect natural-looking results without the side effects and long recovery times typical of traditional hair restoration procedures.

Who Is A Candidate For ARTAS Robotic Hair Restoration?

Approximately 85% of men suffer from pattern baldness by the age of 50*. One-fourth of these men may notice thinning before the age of 21. If you are one of these men, rest assured you are not alone and millions of men are looking to discover a solution to this common problem.

The minimally-invasive ARTAS Robotic System provides unprecedented hair restoration for many men suffering from this condition. Schedule a consultation at Dr. Lipton’s office to see if you are a candidate for the state-of-the-art treatment.

How Is ARTAS Hair Restoration Performed?

The ARTAS Robotic Procedure is an outpatient procedure performed in Dr. Lipton’s office and requires only a local anesthetic. The patient will feel virtually no pain. Some patients can experience minor discomfort and swelling post-procedure, which subsides in one to three days. The hair restoration procedure involves the following steps:

Step 1: High definition stereoscopic vision system utilized ARTAS artificial intelligence algorithms to identify and select the best hair follicles for harvesting.

Step 2: Hair is harvested with robotic precision to preserve the natural look of the donor area. ARTAS provides robotic speed and accuracy unmatched by hand-held techniques.

Step 3: A customized hairline is designed with the system’s recipient site making technology under physician supervision. ARTAS creates optimal site distribution for harvested hair follicles which avoids damaging healthy hair.

Step 4: Hair is transplanted into thinning areas.

Step 5: Noticeably thicker, natural looking and permanent hair growth starts around 6 months and continues over time. Patient results may vary.

How Long Does The Procedure Take?

The hair restoration procedure usually takes from four to eight hours as determined by your doctor and depending on your goals. During the process, you are comfortably seated and Dr. Lipton and our staff are there to maximize your comfort.

What Happens After My ARTAS Session? Is There Recovery?

After your session, your scalp will be tender, and you’ll need some pain medication for few days. For the first couple of days, you’ll have bandages on the treated areas, and you’ll receive antibiotics and anti-inflammatory medications to lower the risk of infection and to calm irritation. Compared to strip harvesting and even the use of scalpels with manual FUE methods, the ARTAS Robotic System is far more comfortable, and recovery is easy.

You’ll want to avoid anything that causes you to excessively sweat for about 10 days. This includes strenuous exercise, steam rooms, saunas, and the like. Other than that, these are not difficult or overly involved recovery periods.

During your consultation and follow-up procedures, Dr. Lipton and our team will instruct you on how to care for your newly implanted hair.

How Will My Hair Look After The ARTAS Robotic Procedure?

The ARTAS robotic procedure provides extremely natural looking results. After treatment, you are able to wear your hair at any length or style.

Because the ARTAS Robotic System selectively harvests individual hair groupings rather than removing a large area of scalp requiring sutures, there is minimal scarring in the donor area. Hair can be worn fashionably short, or in longer styles, whatever you prefer. You’re not limited by having to cover scarring from strip surgery.

ARTAS Hair Restoration Vs “Hair Plugs”

Old fashioned “hair plugs” included the harvesting of large patches of hair that resulted in an awkward and unnatural appearance. The ARTAS Robotic System uses its computer-assisted robotic arm and digital mapping to pinpoint hair groupings as they naturally grow in the donor area. This process provides the doctor micron level control and unparalleled precision in designing a natural looking head of hair and a natural hairline.

Are My Hair Transfer Results Permanent?

The ARTAS procedure uses your own permanent growing hair for the hair transplant procedure. As this hair is not susceptible to the conditions that cause male pattern baldness, your transplanted hair will last a lifetime.

What Is FUE Hair Transplantation?

Hair transplantation procedures relocate “bald resistant” hair follicles from the back of the head to the balding areas on the top of the head. Once transplanted, these follicles that have never been prone to balding naturally grow hair for decades to come.

Formerly, hair transplantation from the back of the scalp to the balding area was done through the harvesting of a strip of hair. This created artificial-looking results both in the transplanted area and at the donor site. Follicular unit extraction (FUE), which is the method used in our ARTAS Robotic System, is far superior because it takes individual follicles, each growing from 1 to 4 hairs, and transplants them one by one where they are needed. This creates natural-looking results using individual hair follicles that are resistant to male or female pattern balding.

How Is The ARTAS System Of FUE Better?

In standard follicular unit extraction, a surgeon cleans and numbs the area where you want hair restored. Holes or slits are created with a scalpel or needle, and each hair follicle is placed in one of the holes. As you would assume, this is a time-consuming process, taking anywhere from four to eight hours. Plus, manual removal and storage of the follicles leads to some follicles not successfully surviving the process. This can create the need for additional sessions in the future.

At Dr. Lipton’s our ARTAS system uses follicular unit extraction, but it vastly improves upon the manual methods described above. Using computer mapping, intelligent algorithms, and robotic technology the ARTAS system takes the guesswork out of this process. Plus, it removes the fatigue factor, and subsequent errors, involved with a doctor manually harvesting and transplanting hundreds, even thousands of hairs.

What Are The Benefits Of The ARTAS Robotic Hair Transplant System?

For men who were suffering from hair loss, the former alternatives were the use of topical medications that had little success regrowing hair, or linear strip harvesting. In strip harvesting, a strip of scalp with growing hair was removed from the back of the head and transplanted on the balding area. This creates an ugly scar on the back of the scalp that will not grow hair, and the transplanted strip doesn’t look natural.

ARTAS Robotic Hair Restoration uses a combination of amazing technology, robotics, intelligent algorithms, and doctor supervision to harvest individual growing follicles from the back of the scalp and transplant them into the balding areas. The result is completely natural, as it is your hair doing the growing, but the computer-aided harvesting and planning delivers the finest results possible. Plus, the robotic arm does an incredibly consistent job harvesting and transplanting, ensuring the most successful hair restoration. These are the reasons Dr. Lipton invested in the ARTAS system for our patients from Lewisville and across the Dallas area.

How Long After My ARTAS Procedure Can I Shower? When Will The Hair Be Secure?

You can shower immediately, but you can’t wash your hair for three days after your ARTAS procedure with Dr. Lipton. You’ll have bandages on the treated areas for probably about two days anyway. You can shower, but you’ll need to leave the treated areas out of the water.

We’ll show you how you will begin to wash your hair after the three-day period. You’ll need to use a surgical sponge that we provide and soapy water to keep the recipient area clean and to stop it from developing crusts on the implanted follicles. The donor area can be washed immediately and needs to be kept clean. We’ll show you the proper technique for washing your implanted area. What’s important is not to rub, and not to use a towel to dry the area. For the first week or so, you’ll let that area air dry. After one week, you’ll be able to shower pretty much as normal, although you’ll not want to be too aggressive with the treated areas for another week.

When Will The Hair Start To Grow?

The first two to three weeks after your ARTAS Robotic Hair Restoration session can be frustrating, although Dr. Lipton explains exactly what is going to happen during your consultation. Over these two to three weeks, all the transplanted hair will fall out. But this doesn’t mean the follicles have failed to take; it is simply the follicles’ reaction to the trauma of transplantation. Not all the transplanted hairs will survive — usually around 75 to 80 percent are successful. The hair follicles then settle in and return to the anagen (growth) phase in 3-4 months, producing natural new hair and returning fullness to the transplanted area.

How Long Does The Robotic Hair Restoration Procedure Take?

Another benefit of the ARTAS Robotic Hair Restoration System is that the process doesn’t take as long as manual FUE methods. Robotic hair restoration with Dr. Lipton takes between four and eight hours, depending on the number of follicles being harvested and transplanted.
