More About ARTAS iX

man visiting young male doctor in hair transplantationLosing your hair can be a real bummer. After all, not all of us look as great as Michael Jordan with our head shaved. That’s why Dr. Lipton invested in robotic hair transplantation with the technological marvel known as the ARTAS iX Robotic Hair Transplantation system. It takes most of the guesswork, fatigue, and error out of this involved process. And, most important, it gives our patients back the fuller, thicker hair they used to have.

We got into some of the details of ARTAS iX in April’s first blog. Let’s do a little more in this post-Easter offering.

How ARTAS Compares to Other Options

Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is the gold standard for hair restoration. The concept is simple — move healthy, actively growing hair follicles from the back of the scalp (where they aren’t all needed) to the thinning and balding areas (where they desperately are). FUE uses the patient’s own healthy hair follicles to fill in thinning areas. Compared to FUE, prescription medications and topical creams don’t even rate.

The only problem with FUE is the manual method used at just about every practice. The process of removing each follicle, storing them, and then transplanting by hand is rigorous beyond belief. We’re talking about potentially a couple thousand hairs. The quality of the follicle selection, removal, and transplantation is critical to get the largest number of follicles to successfully start growing hair in the thinning areas. Manual FUE has problems with fatigue, which leads to errors in both harvesting and transplantation. This dramatically lowers the success rate of the transplanted follicles. It’s simply human error.

Dr. Lipton’s ARTAS iX system takes most of the variables out of these processes. After creating a 3D simulation of the patient’s scalp, the ARTAS system plots the transplantation pattern. It evaluates the potential follicle quality when scanning the donor area. It even accounts for the way individual hairs should lie naturally once transplanted. ARTAS iX uses robotics and artificial intelligence to overcome all of the above-listed problems with manual FUE.

Bottom line? The ARTAS iX Robotic Hair Restoration at Dr. Lipton’s is the unquestioned best tool for patients suffering from male or female pattern baldness. If you are, then we should hear from you. Call us at (972) 420-0023 to schedule a consultation with Dr. Lipton.
