Exfoliation Through Mighty Crystals — Microdermabrasion

Exfoliation and healthy skin go hand in hand, kind of like the Cowboys and Tom Landry. Exfoliation is key for great looking skin. That’s because our epidermis, the skin’s outer layer, is covered with dead skin cells and impurities that can make it appear dull. Men get exfoliation of much of their face every time they shave. For women, microdermabrasion is a form of forced exfoliation to expose the healthy, glowing skin beneath.

Dr. Lipton offers microdermabrasion for his patients from Lewisville and the surrounding areas.

What is microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion originated in Italy almost three decades ago. It delivers a light, abrasive cleansing of the skin. It does this with aluminum oxide or sodium chloride crystals to resurface the outer layer of the epidermis. The crystals are sprayed onto the targeted facial skin and vacuumed away at the same time along with the dead skin cells and impurities the treatment removes.

What conditions does microdermabrasion help?

Microdermabrasion is great for these skin issues:

  • Sun damage
  • Fine lines
  • Age spots
  • Acne
  • Superficial scarring

What is involved in the procedure?

We start by thoroughly cleansing your skin to remove any make-up and oil. For the microdermabrasion, we move the handpiece across the treatment area. We can alter the amount of exfoliation in two ways: the amount of suction employed and the number of passes made over the treatment area.

When we’re finished, we brush away any stray crystals and apply a cold, wet towel to your face. We may also apply a hydrating mask. The procedure ends with the application of moisturizer.

Is microdermabrasion safe?

Microdermabrasion is an easily tolerated procedure. It is completely safe and is great for any type of skin. Patients don’t need any local anesthesia or topical numbing. Your skin may be a little red after your session, but that’s it. You can return to work immediately after your treatment. The only thing you need to do is be sure to protect your skin with sunscreen for the first week after your session.
