Dermal fillers are really a simple idea. When injected, they simply return volume to areas that have lost volume and sagged or drooped. These are generally areas starting beneath the eyes, running down through the cheeks, and then including the areas around the mouth and lower nose.

Why is my skin sagging?
There are a few causes behind our sagging countenances. The biggest culprit is collagen. Collagen is a protein that is responsible for providing the structural framework under the skin. When we are young our bodies produce lots of collagen, giving us those tenets of youthful skin: firm, yet supple feel, good elasticity, and no wrinkles.
For some odd reason, our body believes that after we have our 20th birthday, we don’t need the same amount of collagen ever again. It cuts collagen production by one additional percentage point each year after we hit 20. By 50, you have 30 percent less collagen and 30 percent less structural support under your skin.
Our skin also thins with age. Plus, we hammer it with sun damage. The end result? Smile lines, parentheses lines, marionette lines, barcode lines, sagging cheeks, under eye hollows, and thinner lips. Ugh.
Juvéderm to the rescue
Fortunately, we can return much of that lost volume with the various Juvéderm fillers that Dr. Lipton uses. Juvéderm was one of the original dermal fillers, first approved by the FDA in 2005. Since then the line has been expanded from the original Juvéderm to include six different fillers. Here’s what each Juvéderm product is used for.
- Juvéderm® XC
As the skin loses elasticity and moisture, some people form relatively deep parentheses lines that frame the corners of the mouth and creases that run from the nose to the mouth (nasolabial folds). Juvéderm® XC adds volume beneath the skin to smooth these lines and folds. This was the first Juvéderm® product and remains one of the world’s most popular fillers.
- JuvédermVoluma® XC
Dr. Lipton may call it “age-related mid-face volume loss,” you know it as sagging cheeks. Over time, as you lose the collagen to support your skin and as your underlying muscles weaken, your cheeks flatten. Juvéderm Voluma® XC is designed to add volume beneath the skin’s surface to lift and contour the cheek area. Plump cheeks are a tenet of a younger look.
- Juvéderm®Ultra XC
You may not think about your lips with facial aging, but our lips thin as we get older. Other women have never been happy with the fullness of their lips. Juvéderm® Ultra XC provides or returns fullness and fills the vertical wrinkles that form on our lips.
- Juvéderm®Ultra Plus XC
Like Ultra, Juvéderm® Ultra Plus XC adds volume to the lips and areas around the mouth. Ultra Plus is composed of bigger molecules than Ultra, making it thicker and a little longer lasting. Ultra Plus is better for severe wrinkles and folds and for extra lip volume enhancement.
- Juvéderm Volbella®XC
Juvéderm Volbella® XC is perfect for adding subtle volume and shape to the lips. Plus, it erases the vertical lines that come from volume loss. Juvéderm Volbella® XC does this without overtly enlarging the lips. It provides a more subtle option when compared with Ultra or Ultra Plus.
- Juvéderm Vollure®XC
Juvéderm Vollure® XC is the newest addition to the Juvéderm® family of dermal fillers. Vollure® is designed for the correction of moderate to deep creases and wrinkles such as nasolabial folds running from the nose down to the corners of the mouth, and parentheses lines framing the mouth.
